The outdoor sports world, along with family, friends, and fans worldwide, is mourning the passing of Andrew “Andy” Lewis, the internationally renowned slackliner, BASE jumper, entrepreneur, and adventurer, who died on June 14, 2026, following a tragic BASE jumping accident in the Mineral Bottom area of Grand County, Utah. He was 39 years old.

Widely known by his nickname “Sketchy Andy,” Lewis was a pioneering figure in modern slacklining and played a major role in popularizing tricklining during the mid-2000s. His style combined athletic skill, creativity, and performance, helping to bring global attention to the sport.

One of his notable achievements includes setting a Guinness World Record in 2011 for the most side surfs on a slackline within one minute. He also reached a global audience through his appearance in the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show alongside Madonna, a performance that showcased his unique talents to millions of viewers.

Originally from Santa Rosa, California, Lewis later made Moab, Utah, his home, where he founded BASE Jump Moab. Through this venture, he introduced many people to BASE jumping and became a key figure in the local adventure sports community.
