Zachary Daniel McMullen, a new police officer and cherished member of his community, passed away on June 14, 2026, in West Chester, Ohio. Born on July 18, 2004, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Zach’s life, though tragically brief, was marked by a profound commitment to service, deep family bonds, and a warm spirit that touched all who knew him. Zach’s journey began in Cincinnati and took shape through his education at Lakota East High School and Butler Tech, culminating in an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Owens Community College. His passion for protecting and serving others was evident from an early age, leading him to begin his career as a police officer with the West Chester Township Police Department in September 2025. His dedication extended beyond civilian service. Zach also served his country honorably as a Private First Class in the Army National Guard, completing rigorous training at Fort Benning, Georgia. Known for his kind and caring nature, Zach never met a stranger. His love for baseball, country music, history, and meaningful friendships enriched both his life and the lives of those around him. He built lasting connections through baseball during his high school and college years and was an active participant in the Young Adults group at Crossroads, where his enthusiasm and welcoming personality were deeply appreciated. Zach is survived by his loving parents, Dan and Tara McMullen (Mangold); his sister, Maggie McMullen, and her fiancé, Preston Dorsey; his brother, Matthew McMullen; his grandmother, Vicki Mangold; and his beloved dog, Arrow. He is also remembered fondly by his aunt, Lori Staggs (Bill Staggs); his uncle, Doug Mangold (Shannon); and his cousins, Kelsey, Carson, and Caite. He is cherished by countless friends, great-aunts and great-uncles, cousins, colleagues, and brothers in service. Together, they mourn the loss of a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joshua McMullen; his great-grandmother, Vivian Berryman (“GG”); his grandparents, John Mangold and James and Peggy McMullen; his uncles, Tim McMullen and Patrick McMullen; and his aunt, Ann-Beth McMullen. Their memories remain an integral part of his enduring legacy. Visitation will be held on June 18, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hodapp Funeral Homes, 6410 Cincinnati Dayton Road, Liberty Township, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on June 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, 5720 Hamilton Mason Road, Liberty Township, Ohio. Zachary Daniel McMullen will be remembered for his genuine heart, unwavering devotion to duty, and the joyful impact he made on his community and loved ones. His life, characterized by kindness, courage, and service, stands as a testament to the profound difference one person can make.
