The Waynesburg University community and the wrestling world are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Jessie Orbin, a standout student-athlete whose life was tragically cut short following a motorcycle accident over the weekend. His sudden passing has left teammates, coaches, classmates, family members, and friends devastated as they struggle to come to terms with the loss of a young man whose future was filled with promise.

A rising senior from Chartiers-Houston, Pennsylvania, Jessie Orbin had established himself as one of the most accomplished wrestlers in recent Waynesburg University history. Known for his relentless work ethic, leadership, and competitive spirit, he made an extraordinary impact both on and off the mat during his collegiate career.

In a statement released following the news of his passing, Waynesburg University expressed its sorrow, saying, “The Waynesburg University community is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of our student-athletes. Jessie Orbin will be greatly missed. We are sending prayers for God to lift up and comfort his family at this difficult time.”

Jessie’s accomplishments in wrestling were remarkable. In just three seasons, he amassed an impressive career record of 107 victories against only 25 losses, surpassing the milestone of 100 career wins. He captured two Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) championships and advanced to a third conference title match, establishing himself as one of the premier wrestlers in the conference.

His outstanding performances earned him numerous accolades, including recognition as the PAC Outstanding Wrestler at the 2026 conference championships. Throughout his career, he collected four additional individual tournament championships, earned PAC Wrestler of the Week honors seven times, and was twice named PAC Newcomer of the Week during his freshman season.

Beyond his individual achievements, Jessie served as a team captain during the 2025–26 wrestling season, demonstrating exceptional leadership and commitment to his teammates. During that campaign, he led the Yellow Jackets in total victories, pins, technical falls, and major decisions. His undefeated 11-0 dual-match record helped extend an incredible 38-match dual-meet winning streak that dated back to the early part of his freshman year.

Jessie’s impact extended beyond wrestling. He was twice honored as Waynesburg University Male Athlete of the Year during the university’s annual WUESPY Awards, a testament to both his athletic excellence and his influence within the campus community. He also spent time contributing to the Waynesburg University football program, further showcasing his versatility as an athlete and his dedication to representing his school.

While his athletic accomplishments were extraordinary, those who knew Jessie best remember him for far more than statistics and awards. Teammates, coaches, and friends describe him as a humble leader, a supportive friend, and a young man whose determination inspired everyone around him. His positive attitude, strong character, and commitment to helping others made him a respected figure throughout the university community.

The loss of Jessie Orbin has been felt deeply across Waynesburg University, the wrestling community, and his hometown of Chartiers-Houston. As loved ones mourn his passing, they also celebrate a life marked by achievement, leadership, perseverance, and genuine kindness.

Though his life ended far too soon, Jessie leaves behind a lasting legacy through the records he set, the teammates he inspired, and the countless lives he touched throughout his journey. His memory will continue to live on within the Waynesburg wrestling program, among his family and friends, and in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Viewing and funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.
